In the 1950’s against the background of the Chinese Cultural Revolution Wing Lau and family left Shanghai for England. Wing is passionate about food and in 1955 he set up a his first restaurant in Liverpool.

In 1960 the family relocated to Manchester setting up a new restaurant on Cross Street. Wing is a flamboyant man with a love of fine things. He knows what he want’s and normally gets it, especially in the kitchen!

In 1988 Jenny came over from Shanghai to help her uncle. She’s now runs the restaurant. Uncle Wing has moved back to Shanghai, but he still likes to check on how things are going in Manchester. Family, friends and food are important to Uncle Wing.

The Chinese word for rice is 'fan'
When the Chinese say 'eat rice',
they mean to eat a meal.
